The whole of Florence (the center and the suburbs) is a restricted
parking zone. The Center is also a ZTL
which means that you can't even access it by car (with the exeption
of evenings and Suday).
If you are visiting Florence only for a few hours or a few days
there are a number of Car Parks you can use. Below some of them
(please double check prices and times as these tends to change often).
They are all located around the Historic Center:
S. M. NOVELLA TRAIN STATION
This is the one large parking lot within the city center, located
below the central train station of Santa Maria Novella. Its location
is convenient, but getting there isn't easy since the construction
of a trolley system in Florence has meant construction zones all
around the station. It is also one of the priciest lots in the city,
designed to encourage very short stops.

GARAGES IN THE HISTORIC CENTRE
If you wish to park in the Historic Centre you will also find many
car parks. They cost around 30/40 euros a day (or more). There will
probably be one a few minutes walk from your apartment. Bear in
mind that in entering the Historic Center in the forbidden times
your car number plates will be caught on camera and you will be
fine. However the Garage will be able to cancell the fine for you.
FREE PARKING
On the outskirts of the Historic Centre there is still a place
where you can park for free (but then again before travelling please
check that this is still true). Piazzale Michelangelo is a giant
parking really, but it might be full so there is no garantee you
will find a place and it is quite a long walk to the Centre anyway
(or around 15 mins by bus).
Another alternative if you wish to park for free is to park in
some village on the outskirt of Florence (such as Scandicci) and
then take a bus or the Tranvia to travel to the center.
Always be aware that in Florence streets are cleaned regualarly
(normally every other week). You must be careful not to park your
car when cleaning is scheduled. Always check the signs or ask some
locals (signs are not always easy to interpret).
